About STEPS

We are an interdisciplinary research group seeking to promote and facilitate critical, political and socially motivated research and teaching in the fields of Transnational and Postcolonial Studies in Switzerland.

It is our aim to bring together researchers committed to the critical analysis of languages, literatures and cultures in transnational, diasporic and postcolonial contexts, paying particular attention to the legacies of the colonial enterprise and to the perpetuation and (re)constitution of dependencies and power imbalances in a globalizing world.

Our website is meant to be an agora to encourage collaborative seminars, workshops, conferences, and publications, to approach concepts such as 'diaspora', 'transnationalism', 'border discourses', 'identity politics', 'hegemonic and counter-hegemonic discourses', 'neo-imperialism', etc., across disciplines. We aim to foster interdisciplinary projects which allow a comparison of different geographical and cultural areas and hence contribute to critical evaluations of postcolonial terminology, national and (post)colonial histories and the analysis of present-day discursive struggles.

Future aims of the research group include organizing research seminars and workshops, symposia, conferences, lecture series and film screenings, as well as establishing links with other international research networks and academic and cultural institutions.
